Recognizing bad rolling bearings quickly and cost-effectively
You can only recognize a bad roller bearing after performing comprehensive endurance tests
FALSE – a lot of production defects can already quickly be found in the incoming goods department or during installation.
Roller bearings are machine elements that are standardized according to the German Institute for Standardization and whose quality is ensured by more or less elaborate quality controls.
The most important quality features are the dimensions,
- the hardness,
- the noise characteristics,
- the sealing effect and
- corrosion.
The material quality and the material structure play an essential role in fatigue strength and thus determine the performance of the acquired products.
Since it is only possible to analyze material defects on a random basis and detect them at a high cost, good supplier auditing and process capability analysis are necessary. Trust obtained through cooperation over many years is especially important here. However, many other features can be monitored quickly and cost effectively with simple quality controls:
- standard arbor and strap gauge,
- visual inspections for corrosion and seal effectiveness,
- simple noise testing and smooth running by simply turning the bearings,
- grease quantity and distribution in the bearing after removing the seal or dust shields
It goes without saying that for our customers we perform much more precise quality controls and continuously monitor suppliers through auditing. This effort is no longer a given for many of the roller bearing providers out there and therefore comes with a high level of risk, especially when it comes to goods that have already gone through several levels of trade.
Therefore please check in advance whether the bearings meet the desired quality standards and put your trust in long-term collaboration and rolling bearing technology specialists.
